The Wurrumiyanga Housing Project was a success collaboration between DIPL and DCHD and SH Build. The Project was for construction of 5 x 3 bedroom ground level block homes to the new subdivision within Wurrumiyanga Community on Bathurst Island which is a short 30 minute flight from Darwin. As per all community and island work the Project had its operational challenges including freight coordination, wet season weather including cyclones, staff mobilisation and rosters, and limited services within the community, challenges that were overcome to deliver a safe and quality driven project.
The client deliverables included quality built housing, to budget, with a strong focus on local development, with all works being undertaken safely. SH Build delivered on all achievements.
"The quality workmanship and final product delivered, is always of the highest standard and sees SH Build continue to build on what is already a very successful company. The SH Build team has an outstanding reputation for Indigenous Employment and engagement which can be seen through completed contract statistics. SH Build not only provided outstanding training opportunities, but forged long standing relationships within the community." - Project Director Housing Projects, DIPL.
SH Build set a goal on this project to engage local Indigenous workers to undertake a Cert II in Construction who would be trained in the classroom and onsite and then move onto a permanent role on the Project. This goal was successfully achieved with 10 starters of which 9 finished the course and continued on to be employed for the duration of the contract.
Safe working processes were carried out at all times onsite with the site successfully undergoing 4 internal safety audits.
The Project was completed with excellent quality finishes that exceeded the clients expectations.
